Unhappy DSD

I have a DSD who is 11 yo. She is a very big girl. She is about 5'8". Not an issue but what is, is her weight. She wears a size 18 in womens!!! I don't know what she weighs but I know it's a least 200 lbs. I really try to watch what she eats but he Nana (whom I hate) gives her what she wants. She gives her little debbie cakes for snack at school, cokes, chocolate milk, etc. She was cheering but now doesn't do that either b/c they made fun of her. When I say something to my DH, he gets mad at me. I don't want this child growing up being made fun of. What about her health!!!! This could be awful. I'm not allowed to say anything. When she is over at MIL house, she sucks a paci

A paci? Seriously what is wrong with those people? I cannot beleive a father or grandparent would think that's appropriate.

What happens if you sit down for a basic talk with her about general health, eating habits and such. Since kids have made fun of her already she might be open to a little help if approached right.

My niece (dh's sisters kid) was majorly overweight and they work in the health field. I never understood how they could allow this to happen since they were very healthy but allowed the grandmother (not dh's mother) to feed her crap all the time and she never exercised. She turned 15 last year and made up her own mind to change and she's lost 90+ lbs and looks so good and feels great about herself it's totally changed her life. No thanks to parents!

I've tried the general talk and even asked her if she would like to start walking w/ me and the baby. She went and told MIL that I said she was fat and needed to start walking to lose weight. WTF!!! I would never call her fat. I was trying to help her. I know how mean kids are.

And just so you know, MIL get mad at EVERYTHING!!! For example, wehn I had Colton, someone asked what his middle name was, my Mom told them it was Mike, after DH's step dad. Well, DH's SD got killed 2 years ago (she wised him this everyday) and MIL got so mad she left the hospital before they brought the baby back b/c my Mom called Mike his step dad. Can you believe her!!!! I think I need to head to the venting room now.

Can you take her to the doc and ask the doctor to approach it? Then it's not you saying it directly.

I'm with Susan--if she's using a paci at 12, that's way messed up. They going to run into a lot bigger problems in the next few years than her weight and a paci if they have no ground rules for her.
