Sharyn- where are you in SoCal? All of the answers everyone has given are correct- Santa Ana winds, lightening, arson, low humidity etc. Alot of times it is downed power lines from the winds as well. Many areas are also wind tunnels- in between mountains and canyons, and that is where it gets the worst. Sylmar, Brea, Tonner, can Carbon Cyn. are all like that. My
DH and I live in north San Bernardino which is a wind tunnel too. 5 years ago my
DH almost lost his house (we hadn't met yet, lol) and he had a friend a few streets down who did lose his house. This last week has been really bad- 5 years ago we had fires EVERYWHERE in SoCal, but not many homes were lost. This is particularly devastaing. Last year was bad in some areas including San Diego. I really feel for all of those families. Most of the homes are apartments, condos, and your typical single family dwelling. The Montecito fire from the Santa Barbara area lost million dollar homes.
