Default overheating...double post

i asked this question over in my playgroup as well. thanks for all of the help!

i had the same problem when i had michael. except, he was born in august so it wasnt quite as bad. i am always worried of heating Lola up too much. especially when i read that overheating can contribute to SIDS. during the day, she wears her long sleeved footies and then at night i have her wear a nightgown. before, i used to put a onesie on and then her nightgown and then her blanket to sleep. well, she wont sleep in her bassinet, so i end up putting her to bed with us. she snuggles close to me. in the middle of the night or morning, when she is rousing, i feel her and she is on fire! so, i unwrap her and she quickly cools off. i have adjusted my heat in the house (we are all hot people here, so it is killing poor juan and mikey) and i have it on 70 degrees (we normally have it on 68 during the winter and summer) so it is fairly warm in the house. what are you guys doing? whats your house set on?

our house is generally set at 68,69 in the winter. During the day - 64,65 at night.
I can't handle it much colder than that because I'm such a whimp.
Yes, I already have 3 layers on at 68degrees just to keep from shivering... I swear I have a broken internal thermostat

when my babies were teensy - I just made sure they were wearing one more layer than I was (because that's what they say to do in the books).

I insisted on my kids NOT sleeping with me so I didn't have to roasting problem. I know they don't sleep very well... at first... on their own but the problem really is short-lived. I just felt they were much safer in their own space (in my room) while sleeping and newborn. (not up for debate).
I prettymuch always had a onsie on underneath their other outfit.
In the summer, when my babies were tiny (sarah was summer baby andrew was a winter baby) they had to be in just a diaper when it was super hot because we didn't have A/C and that was the best I could do.

that was also a concern of mine, the sleeping together part. i think i am doing it because im tired and she cries. i think that maybe i should put her in his bassinett for naps during the day so that she can get used to it.

mmmm...food for thought for me.

We put Erin in her crib after a week. She would not sleep well in her bassinet. She sleeps across the hall in her crib and I can hear her every move form my bed anyway.

Our heat is screwey. We set it at 65 at night and are still warm enough. Our thermostats are in bad places so they do not relfect the true temps of the rooms. Erin sleeps in a foosie and a wearable blanket or a onsie and a fleece sleeper. Her hands feel chilly in the emorning, but the books say that is normal. When she was small enough, she would sleep in a t-shirt or onsie and a swaddle blanket (the ones with the velcro so they couldn't get over her face).

We're cheap so we have our thermostat permanently set at 63.

I always put my girls in a onsie, jammies, and swaddled them. They enjoyed the swaddle and would sleep SOO much better that way. Char was swaddled until she was 6 months or so.

One thing that always helped my girls fall asleep in their bassinet/crib---use a heating pad and warm the sheets before you put her in. We'd turn it on medium while they nursed and remove it from the sheets right before putting them in there. It worked like a charm and we never really had a hard time with sleeping.
