I think the other hospital here does it (in other words, not the one that our insurance allows us to go to even though we like it MUCH better for multiple reasons!), but not the one I go to. I wonder how much it would even be jsut to go have that done? I've always thought the 3D/4D u/s's are so cool!

I'd say go get it done and if your other Dr doesn't like it, too bad! This is YOUR baby and YOUR pregnancy and if you want pics that are 3D/4D, that's YOUR decision to get it!

Some places I contacted do require "permission" from your OB... it kind of makes sense though... from my view (especially as a Labor and Delivery nurse)...

My OB office just recently got a 4D machine and they did mine for me....

I'd say go for it... you're OB shouldn 't mind if she's any kind of human....

ETA: Oh, and the Ultrasound techs at those places usually aren't "professionals" and they aren't allowed to diagnose anything... it's merely for fun....

to me - that OB is NOT someone I would like to have as my OB. I'd be hunting for another. If the equipment is THAT old, then it is unlikely that it is clearly showing defects and other markers that they use those machines for in the first place. Making me question their prenatal care and all that stuff.
And the whole Diva attitude would really make me look for someone else too.

I don't know about the requirements for notifying a primary care dr about such procedures....
but I do know that they're now finding that ultrasounds aren't as safe as they once thought.
So even if you really really really really really really want one, you might want to reconsider after knowing the current facts on it.
After all, if you found out that these ultrasounds have the potential to trigger autism.... you wouldn't do it, right?

I'm not saying that ultrasounds cause autism - they just don't know. But they haven't ruled that out yet either and it is still highly suspicious....

oh, that's good to know. I wonder if she's read all the latest studies on the subject.

There is a whole lotta data coming in daily that confirm that ultrasounds in general are NOT as safe as they thought.
