My mom sews wonderfully and I can barely sew a straight line.

I'd take a class and just start by trying a few easy patterns.

My Grandma taught me to cross stitch and my step Grandma taught me to do quilting, but we only got to a certain point and then she was hospitalized and passed away so I am clueless on a few things but am slowly learning more and more.

I'm also self-taught. I have taken a few classes in recent years to hone my skills but I basically taught myself through trial and error as well as reading los of books nad tutorials.

I think it would be fun to take a class at JoAnns or someplace like that.

I can make repairs if I have to but I don't have to patience to actually make something.

I'm with Q, I'd love to learn to sew! My mom used to make our Easter dresses and even a few outfits and I would love to do that for my daugther. I only know how to repair a seam that has torn on clothes or a pillow. I took HomeEc in 7th grade, but we only did stuff like sew on buttons and make small Christmas ornaments and stuff. I want to learn how to use a sewing machine! Does JoAnn really offer classes on that? I wouldn't know where else to look...
