Default Would you...

If you were given the opportunity, would you put your kids in tv/movies?

We don't live far from LA so physically it would be possible. Commutes would be about 1hr each way. I know a woman who's 3 kids are doing this. Its all non-speaking rolls so they aren't paid huge amounts but its enough that each of the kids have a nice savings account.

School is not a huge issue. If its an all day job, the kids have to bring 3 hrs school work with them to do on the set. The mom says if she knows enough ahead she gets work from the teacher & otherwise just prints out worksheets to bring with.

My work might be a problem. I work at home and it is flexible enough I can usually take time off when needed although sometimes I can't and DH would never be able to do it.

I could get the name of their agency if I wanted. If you thought your kids could do this and you had the option, would you?

Absolutely not. I live about an hour's train ride from Manhattan and have been asked this question before regarding putting my daughter into modeling. My mom did it with my sister over 30 years ago, but it was much more relaxed then-now it is very cutthroat! Here it is all about trekking in to auditions and spending all day in the city going from place to place-without even necessarily getting any jobs.

Granted, dd is only going to be 1 in two weeks, so I am in a very different situation!

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Since its all non-speaking "extras" work there are no auditions to sit thru. The woman I know had to sign her kids up with an agency & submit pics and she gets a phone call or text message when there is a job.

That sounds much better than what is involved here! Sounds like it is at least worth a try!

If my kids had different personalities I think I'd try it for a few years...enough to get some money in the bank. But Rachel is a little too outgoing - she has to touch everything and can't keep her mouth shut & has to be in the middle of every situation so she'd get kicked off her 1st set! Leanna is the opposite in a new place. She gets shy and won't do what she was told unless I was standing beside her.

So I don't think I ever would but I was curious about what other people thought about the idea.
