Default Please help with baby girl name. Beatrix?

My husband and I thought we had settled on the perfect girl's names and were torn between Beatrix and Nadine (last name Fletcher). We love the names for our own reasons but were surprised when we got such negative reactions from certain family members (some loved it).
We want to make sure that we choose an elegant and uncommon name that the child likes and would like a wider spectrum of opinions. I do not want anything that is widely used or getting too popular.

Other favorites include:
Mina or Mila
Sadie
Scarlett
Violet (at bottom of list though this is our daughter Lorellei's 1st choice)
Beatrix #1
Nadine #2
Gwyneth (near bottom but still cute)
Astrid (also near bottom because husband doesn't like it as much as I do)
Ruby (might be getting a bit too trendy)

I love all your names except Astrid! I love names just like you chose, that are all real names people have heard of but aren't being widely used at the moment. Violet is my favorite, just like your daughter.
Another name I like for a girl is Anneliese. If I'd had a daughter I would have used it and called her Annie, which nobody is using right now.

We made the choice to keep the names a secret from friends and family for that very reason. Everyone has an opinion, and everyone will fall in love with that BABY and her name once they are holding her.

Congrats!

I think all your names are lovely. My favorites are Scarlett, Violet and Beatrix. I'm more lukewarm on Gwyneth, Ruby and Sadie, but they're still nice

We were in a similar position as you when our second daughter was born. We didn't tell anyone her name until after she was born (we didn't decide on a girl name until about 30 minutes before she was born and we didn't know the gender of our baby until she was born).

When we told people her name was Charlotte, we got some squirrely looks and my mother-in-law actually put her hand on her chest and said, suspiciously, "Ooooohhh.....Charlotte....."

My dad asked me what our other choices were and I told him. He replied, "Oh, I like those better."

I was physically sick when I was filling out the Social Security information at the hospital but my husband told me to stick with it--we'd named her that and we certainly weren't going to change it now. So we did.

And now, at five years old, she's has given new life to an "old" name. I can't imagine her being named anything else--it's a perfect name for her and she's so proud to be called Charlotte. (We call her Char a lot of the time.)

So I say FORGET THOSE NAYSAYERS! Name your baby whatever you want--I think Beatrix is a beautiful name and what a great opportunity for your precious daughter to breathe new life into a name that everyone thinks is "old". I applaud you for considering a mature name for your girly!

Thank you all for your input. We both had the names grow on us and are hoping family members warm up to the idea. I just would hate to name my child something she didn't end up liking. My daughter loves her name and so does everyone I introduce her to. I would like the same reaction but it is, after all, our choice.

Thank you again!
