Hi all-
My 2 week old son had been on Similac Advance Early Shield and ate really well, had a little gas, slept great. He started to develop mucus and blood in his stool, so yesterday the doctor had me switch him over to Alimentum. Since then, he is not my happy baby. He screams for no reason, doesnt want to eat, is not sleeping well, and has had what I call 3 diareah diapers this morning. The good news is that there was no blood in the stool.

Anyone have any advice? I am thinking I really want to switch him back to his original formula and get my happy baby back. I called the ped and I am waiting for him to call me back. Not sure if he is going to want to do an endoscopy to see what is going on.

I'm so sorry your having a rough time! I'm assuming your doctor switched him to alimentum because blood/mucus in his stool can be a sign of allergies. You could try nutramigen - its the same type of formula as alimentum, just a different brand. Maybe he would like that better?

that or you could possibly try the Isomil thats what my son has to be on

I switched to Nutramigen with the Enflora and he is a lot better! He grunts a lot, but that is way better than the screaming. BUT... when I bought it with the Enflora, I didnt realize you could buy it without it and get a larger container and it is cheaper without it. Do you think I could switch him to just the Nutramigen without the Enflora without any issues for him? I dont want to screw him up, but $25 for 12.6oz of powder is soooo much!!

I'm not sure. You'll have to ask your doctor about that. I bought nutramigen for my daughter but I don't remember seeing anything about enflora. Sorry! She is allergic to dairy so the nutramigen made a huge difference for her. I know her container of nutramigen didn't say anything about enflora - that must be something new since I bought it for her.

Beware - the nutramigen seriously gave my dd the worst smelliest poop ever.
