Being in the health care industry, it makes sense that powdered formula carries the risk, due to being unable to sterilize powdered substances. And as a side note, bottled water is not sterile and should be boiled before using to prepare infant formula.
I have chosen to use the sterile concentrated liquid to avoid all the issues and make a batch using sterile equipment and sterilized bottles/nipples, and refrigerate 24 hrs worth of feeds in order to reduce the risk to my newborn. I was actually surprised when I did the math and found that a serving of the concentrated formula is actually 4 cents cheaper than a serving of powdered formula for the brand I use.
