Question 6 weeks and won't take a bottle

Hi all!

My son is 6 weeks old and we are trying to introduce a bottle (pumped bm). He absolutely refuses - just cries and cries. My dh is the one trying to feed him. I'm staying out of the room so that he doesn't detect my presence. We are hoping he will take one now and then to give us the freedom to go on a date. Any special advice or tips you can give me? We have tried when he is very hungry and also when he is not so hungry. I feel so badly hearing him cry and knowing he is hungry. I have to restrain myself from going in there and bfing him

What should I do? TIA.

Peggy

I know how you feel! My daughter is 4 1/2 months old and still won't take a bottle.

I've just resigned to not being away from her for more than a few hours, because she is absolutely miserable when anyone tries to give her a bottle. (One time my mother used a medicine dropper to get her to take a little EBM while DH & I were at a wedding.) I hope you're able to get him transitioned to the occasional bottle...the freedom is well worth it, I'm sure! Good luck!

my 7 month old wont take one either. I guess Some babies just wont do it. I think of it this way. Her not taking a bottle makes it impossible for me to get lazy and give hre one, even when i should BF and It is one thing I wont have to take away from her whe she is older. She wont take a paci either, but she is just starting to drink froma sipper.

Good Luck
we are all in this together

I truly have no ideas for you. I went thru the same exact thing. Now at 9 months Aedan will take water of juice from a bottle. He took formula/bm 3 times in his life from a bottle and that was when I was not even in the house. That was also after throwing a fit. Good Luck honey. I hope you can conquer the anti- bottle little boy.

Just keep having others give him the bottle. He may eventually give in.

I dont know if this will help, but my DD who we introduced EBM at 3 weeks, would not take the bottle from anyone except me. I know she is much younger, but it may work.
