hi all im new to tbc I am hoping someone can help me I have a nine month old that i have been breastfeeding since birth not real successful he had a hard time latching short tounge high roof anyways really hard time with him (he's number four so you would think i would be a pro) when he was 4 months my milk supply dropped drasticlly no one could figure out why. Recentlt he has statred biting everytime he starts to nurse I have tried everything (the little sweetheart has 8 teeth and they are sharp He seems to think it is a game. I am not ready to give up but it seems he is. could this be his way of weaning? also he has plugged tear ducts and i was recently told to but my milk in his eyes and it will clear it up anyone heard of this? My concern is he hasn't nursed in 2 days and having a low milk supply to begin with i am not getting any milk when i pump for the record i tried some herbs when he was 4 months to build supply. Didn't work any input would be appreiated sorry this is so long.

hi charlierae,

welcome to tbc.

my 6 month old has started the biting also and giggles to no end when i scream in pain or cry. i find that he does this most when he is done eating or when the breast that he is feeding on is empty. I am also having some supply issues and tried many things to help boost my supply at home (tons of water, oatmeal, pumping and nursing very frequently, hand expression) I found that i was able to get more milk by hand expression than pumping at first. I now have a prescription for Domperidone to boost my supply even more. I have had good results from this med when i was bf'ing my 2 yr old ds.

he could also be cutting another tooth too, that could be a big factor in the biting.

I hope that you get to continue bf'ing and that everything works itself out.

take care and if you want to talk, you can email me

Donann

When my DS bit me the first time, hard, I inadvertantly screamed and yanked my boob away from him and he got a fright and was really upset! Not that I would recommend this to anyone as a way of stopping the biting, but that's what worked for us. Whenever he bit me after that occasion I just had to say "Ow" softly and he would immediately stop biting (and would usually burst into tears - which made me feel awful!)
For your supply, as mentioned already, drink lots of water, eat oatmeal, take Fenugreek tablets or drink it as tea and get as much sleep as you can. Prolactin, the hormone that stimulates your milk supply, is formed while you are asleep.
Hope this helps and
