Couldn't do it!

  • Lately my supply has been getting less, as Ava nurses less and less (she's 10 1/2 months now). I have alway put bm in her cereal, and I work, so I always have to pump enough for a few bottles and for her cereal. I figured that it wouldn't hurt to start adding formula to the cereal instead of bm, so I could just use that for her bottles. I bought my first thing of formula, mixed it up, then read the "disclaimer" on the back of the can...where they say breastfeeding is best, and they don't advocate the use of formula over breastmilk, etc...Well, I couldn't do it! I spilled out the formula. I felt so guilty!!!
How many of you use formula in cereal, or just as a general supplement?

  • I used EBM in cereal for a while in the beginning, but felt like I was spending my entire day pumping just for the little bit it took to get the cereal right. So I used a tip from my SIL who had just had her 4th child! I sprinkled a little bit of formula on top of the cereal and mixed it with water. I thought of it as an iron supplement more than formula. I used so little formula, in fact, that I only depleted two small cans in during the entire time she was eating cereal.

  • I did. I had no issues doing it.

Hey, fresh fruits and veggies are best too -- but I give my kids frozen ones. Heck, even canned fruits and veggies sometimes! I know we all want what's best - but we also have to look at the practical side.

  • With DD I pumped any time I had to leave her. Well, then I got pg when she was 6 months and eventually weaned her to formula around 8-9 months. It didn't kill her and she is almost 2 and still doing fine so now if I have to leave DS I leave a bottle of formula. I don't have the time to pump. Formula is not the best but it's not poison!

I agree. It is not the best, but isn't poison. I too used formula on her cereal. I figured it was an iron supplement since after six months of age they supposedly need iron in their diet.

Don't beat yourself up. It is hard enough being a mommy without doing that.
