With my first baby, I couldn't eat dairy, or anything with a red sauce (which I love) or anything with a lot of garlic. He can have all those things, just didnt tolerate it well in the breastmilk.

Let me tell you, giving up ice cream for 9 months was a sacrifice!

Thanks! I know what you mean- I LOVE dairy! And being a vegetarian, it is a main source of fat and protein for me. My sister, being very thoughtful, bought me some soy cherry chocolate chip ice cream...believe it or not it is REALLY good! I hope this helps DD- we shall see. She's not really even that bad- but I think it may have to do with the dairy. I am going to call my friend/lactation consultant and see what she thinks and we have a peds appt. tomorrow. Jeanne- how did you know that your son was sensitive to the things you listed???

My kids were all lactose intolerant, in the respect that I had to refrain from lactose when I was nursing them, oddly enough I also became lactose intolerant when pg. Anyway lactaid milk is pretty good, and reading up on lactose intolerance I found that hard cheese was ok to eat, which was great because I crave sharp cheddar when pg. Something about the aging and the hardening of cheese removes the lactose.
