I had the problem of bloody nipples at first to and then the LC gave me some good tips for latching.

she said to squeezes a bit of milk out on the nipple and tickle baby's lip to get him to open up and when he opens his mouth aim the nipple toward the roof of his mouth as he latches on.
It really did help me with the pain. and bleeding! I never had an issue after that.
also you can try some other nursing positions some times that helps with latching also.
good luck I hope it gets better soon

We varied positions today when I was sore and it seemed to help a lot. I also think it may have something to do with the fact that I am now nursing in a very deep couch as opposed to a harder chair and my positioning has suffered-I payed special attention to that today too!
Thanks ladies-these hormones are messing with my mind too so that didn't help. Having a good day today will help me through tomorrow if it is not as good.

Do you have a pillow? I am busty and have a huge baby but I use a regular bed pillow I bought at Target. I know ppl swear by the boppy and all that other stuff but they never worked for me. I use the football hold exclusively, but I have to put my feet up, etc etc.
Hope you are on your way to many months of happy nursing!

The ladies have given great advice and it does sound like things are getting better. Are you using something on your nipples to help them heal, I would recommend the Lansinoh cream it is awesome. I also used the football hold a lot with my kiddos when they were tiny. I love the MyBreastFriend breastfeeding pillow. It is very firm and keeps the baby at just the right level so they are not pulling on your nipple. Good Luck and Good job for trying to work through this, many women would have thrown in the towel already!
