  • Boy it was HOT! I live it the desert and it can get just as hot but it cools down at night. In Vegas the low only got down to 87 or something like that.

    So...what we did...

We took the girls to The Rio which is where DH and I got married. They have a free show but unfortunately it would show too late as we had tix to another show. We wanted to show the girls the chapel where we got married...but they remoded so it is not there anymore *sob* . I guess it means something that my marriage has outlasted the place where we got married.

DH drove up Fri and we all saw Criss Angel Believe which is a magic show. The girls loved it and Rachel was laughing out loud during most of the show. . My kids laughing always makes me laugh. Some of the dialog was innapropriate but not much. I was a bit disappointed because its produced by Cirque De Soleil so I thought it would be a Cirque show with magic. Nope - Cirque is just producing the show. Oh well the show was still worth watching but there are better magic shows we could have seen instead. Next time I'll research it better.

DH took Rachel and my niece to CSI:The Experience and they all had fun. My sister went to visit a friend who lives in Vegas and I took Leanna to the Venician Hotel. We walked around the mall and rode on the gondolas (which is so not worth the money but Leanna loved it.) The Venician is georgous inside and somehow more peaceful than some of the other hotels.

We also all went to Cesars Palace because the girls wanted to see the moving statues but it was hot inside and we didnt' feel like waiting for it to start and by that time we felt like we'd walked 20 miles and were ready to leave. All the hotels are so huge! Next time I want to stay downtown where they are all next to each other.

We also swam and went to some of the other hotels and to the M&M museum and oogled at all the lights and people.

All in all a good trip.

  • FUN! DH and I just booked a Vegas trip for August for our 10th anniversary. We're staying at The Venetian so I'm glad that you said you liked it!

We've never been to Vegas so we're open to suggestions about where to go, where to eat, etc.

I'm glad you had a good time! We're REALLY looking forward to our trip!
Thank you Dopey406!

  • We didn't plan any place in particular. We always ended up picking a restaurant at whatever hotel we were in when we got hungry. All the hotels have a buffet and different restaurants you may know. The one we were at had TGI Fridays which is kid-friendly so we ate there 3 times. There are some buffets that are supposed to be fabulous but I don't know which are which.

Don't assume like I did that all the shows with Cirque de Soleil are Cirque shows!

Go online to all the big hotels and see what they have. Some things I know about:
Treasure Island - small pirate show in front
    Mirage - White tigers
Luxor - Titanic exhibit and Bodies exhibit
Venician - gondolas & living statue
New York - you just have to go in and look because it looks just like NY city
Paris - Eifel tower you can ride an elevator up
    Bellagio - dancing fountains.
    Cesars Palace - moving statues
I think Planet Hollywood is closed
    Rio - free Carnivale show

Prepare for a lot of walking and time to get from place to place. The hotels are HUGE and parking is free but sometimes difficult. On the last day I just opted for Valet parking. Its free, you are close to the door/elevator, and so much easier than driving in circles looking for a space in the parking structures!

If you like nightlife I'm sure others can tell you where to go.

And I don't know if you've been in casinos before, but its not like it used to be. No clang, clang, clang from the coins falling out because its all done with dollars and you get a credit slip to cash in. Oh - one last thing - if cigarettes bother you but you want to gamble - find a non-smoking casino. The smoke smell is awful wherever you go.

  • Sounds like it was a fun but hot trip. That is an insane temperature. I always thought deserts got really cold at night. Maybe all those lights heat things up? LOL!

Deanna, hope you and DH have a great trip. Should be lots of fun.
Thank you Patience!
