Before kids, we always went out. The last time we went on New Year's Eve was 12/31/2009, but we actually went out of town for that one & left our dd at Grandma's, so it was fun and a nice break. The past few year's we have just stayed home like it was any other night and I'd be in bed by 11, lol.

This year I really wanted to send the kids to my parents and go out, but I guess I should have talked to Dh about it awhile ago. He wants, and what we are doing, a get together at our house with all our friends and their kids. So, we will have like 20+ people and a whole bunch of kids running around my little house. I am sort of dreading it! I'll let ya'll know how it goes....

Having people over is always fun....even if you have to clean it up later/or the next day. They do a concert series here in town at about 8 churches called Good Nite. Where there are various music acts (some religious, some not) and the local bus service runs shuttles between them all. We may or may not do one concert. Either way the night will end with the kids in bed and Leslie and I watching the ball drop.

Well, our little shindig turned out pretty well. Dh stayed true to his word and stayed inside all night with our guests and the kids. There were a few folks that didn't make it and we had a lot of left over dip & cocktail sausages which we ate for lunch the next day. I could not believe how late my kids stayed up, but with all the other kids there, I don't think there was any way they would have gone down. We ended up putting the baby down at 10:30pm and most of the guests had left by 11pm. A couple that we are good friends with and their kids are the same age as ours stayed along with one of Dh's friends to watch the ball drop. Of course I couldn't resist having dd kiss her little buddy on the cheek at midnight. They all left soon after and dd was in bed around 12:30.

There were fireworks going off all night in my neighborhood and at midnight it got crazy with people's "finales" so we went outside to watch.....and then heard SEVERAL gunshots and quickly went back inside. Such a stupid and illegal tradition; people get killed when that happens sometimes kids, and so soon after what happened in CT. God people are idiots sometimes! And since we have traditionally been asleep or out, I did not know they did that in my neighborhood. I hope someone who lived closer to where it seemed to be coming from called the police. We couldn't exactly tell where it was, but it sounded like more than one idiot doing it at the same time.
