Default Idiotic......

This is a vent/tell your story thread. Have you ever gotten advice from friends and family that was just outrageous and really make you wonder if they are idiots? Well my grandmother is very, very guilty.
My son is 4 months old and he is starting to crawl....well scoot himself across the floor. I'm very proud, especially for him doing so so early. However, my grandmother thinks it isn't wise to allow him to move to fast developmentally because it will hinder him in the future. I asked her how, she simply told me to just trust her and slow my son down......yeah....

So have any of you received any idiotic advice?

yes! my daughter is noticing her body parts, legs, feet, toes, ears. well, she grabbed her ear for the first time and was flipping it. well a friend said to.me "99% of the time that means she has an ear infection. you need to take her to the dr." Im like no, shes just noticing its there, I would be worried if she held it and fussed or something but she was all smiles!
I have ALOT of stories. theres ALWAYS people out there that like to tell u how to raise your kids instead of 'giving advice'

My MIL was watching my struggle to nurse our second daughter (we'd had a traumatic delivery and my pituitary gland was damaged causing me to have an issue with milk production, plus she'd been bottle-fed in the hopsital nursery against my wishes which caused some nipple confusion, which I never believed in until I experienced it). As she watched me, she said, condescendingly, "Well, I always nursed my boys 10 minutes on each side and then switched to the other.....oh, wait....I didn't nurse them. I bottle-fed them........"

It was a long, awkward silence and then she left the room.

She had nuthin'!

She has done this so many times over the years and it's SO annoying. She's an RN who thinks that she knows it all. Grrr!!

Sounds like my mom. She says stuff like, "Why are people making such a fuss about breastfeeding? I didn't do it with either of my kids and they turned out just fine." If I say say something like, I really want to do it, doctors and experts recommend it, she says "Oh, what do doctors know?" Ummm, ok.

And she has a university degree and a successful career. I think that just makes her the expert of everything. Luckily when growing up, we had a great grandma to take care of us so we didn't really have to depend on mom's "expertise".
