Default Some important news from my sister

Yesterday on my way home my sister texted me to tell me that she is okay, but that she is having surgery and to call her. She has decided to have a preventative double masectomy with immediate reconstruction. She has very dense breasts and you can't see anything on a mammogram., Her Dr.'s told her that if they were to catch anything it wouldn't be until stage 3 cancer. She had an MRI and it was clear, and they would recommend she have one every year. She also has other risk factors including the fact that our grandmother had breast cancer and she never breastfed because her kids are adopted. I am very proud of her for doing something so scary- I think it is such a wise decision. She is a nurse to it is being done at her hospital, and she has a PPO so they will have to pay some of the costs, but she gets somewhat of a discout becasue of it being at the hospital where she works. many of you know we don't get along very well, but I was pleased she let me know personally and let me know before she sent a mass email out to her friends and family. Wow- what a decision! (she is a 32b, so she is also going slightly bigger, lol).

Wow. That's a brave decision. And maybe this will be a path to forging a better relationship with your sister. Praying for a swift recovery.

Hope it all goes well. That is a brave decision, and I hope it brings you two closer as sisters. I know I'd love to have a sibling right about now who cared about me.

That is a very brave (and smart IMO) choice. It is wonderful that she felt the need to tell you personally. That is a really sisterly thing and I too hope that this helps forge a better relationship for you both.

I'm with Jeanne, a sister (or brother) who had any desire to be a part of my life, and me a part of theirs is a gift for sure!

Hoping her recovery is fast and without much pain.
