Thumbs up $144/year

Tonight we figured that our deep freezer is saving us at least $144/year in milk alone!!

We've been buying up milk because it's been on sale for $2/gallon and freezing it in our deep freezer. We have to pour a little bit off to make room for expansion but we pour it into an empty gallon and drink it. Then we thaw it for a couple of days in the fridge--and VOILA!! We have a constant supply of milk at a good price. We're saving at least $1/gallon and we drink about 3 gallons/week. That's $12/month we're saving in milk so that's $144/year!!

Anyone else freeze milk??

no freezing milk here.
How many gallons does the freezer hold?

That's your real savings. Until the milk price goes up, then really, there isn't any savings because of course you're not saving anything from the current price.

And, how much energy does your freezer cost you monthly? That's one thing I've been wondering. What's the average cost of energy for deep freezers?

skyqueen~ As long as you're using the freezer anyway, you're saving $$$, the more you put in a freezer, the more efficient it is to run it. I'm not sure on the actual numbers, but that's what I know

Deanna~ That's great! I've never tried freezing milk, I was always told it gets kinda weird when you freeze it, like more creamy or something? Guess I was wrong! Way to save

yes, I'm aware that the fuller the freezer is, the more efficiently it runs. But how may gallons does a freezer hold? 12 gallons?

you can freeze those 12 gallons and that's the only amount you'll save over and above the time that the price goes up.
