Default budget/variable expenses

I worked out a "budget" for the first time ever this month. Problem is, I had a really hard time figuring out what is reasonable for things like clothes, entertainment, etc. I budgeted for groceries, gifts for my mom and FIL who have b-days coming up this month (today actually), but had no idea how to decide how much to keep aside for entertainment and how much to save/put toward debt.

How do I figure this out?

Oh, and I guess I was looking for a percentage or how you decide, not necessarily a dollar amount.

the first month for budgeting I did a guesstimate, and then used that as a jumping off point for a figure for the next month. Just a idea you might want to try. I pull out a set amount each month for gifts/christmas and use the money as the year goes along. That way some months where you have 5 birthdays you aren't hit hard because you make up for it in the months where you might not have any.
