The list is shorter for the things I don't buy generic of. Of Course if the name brands are on sale and I can get them cheaper than generic I get those instead.

We use-
Tide
Downy
Bounty or Brawny paper towels
Scott TP
Soda (when we buy it is always Pepsi products)
Chips (when we buy them)
Bread (only because I hit the bread outlet and get the loaves of bread way cheaper than the store brand anyways)
Cereal (I wait until the GM cereals are on a great sale and I have coupons and end up getting it for half of the generic price. Usually I stock up when they have these sales and don't buy cereal for 3-4 months after)

totally agree on the TP thing, besides who can stand to wipe with that cheap stuff??

I do usually buy store brand milk, canned veggies, rice, cheese, stuff like that....one thing that saves us a ton of money isnt grocery stuff.... I buy most of my kids clothes (the stuff they wear for "everyday) second hand, I dont know about you guys but my boys especially are SO hard on clothes anyways its a total waste to buy something brand new because they end up with a stain or a hole or something the first time they wear it!!!

our goodwill and value village (2nd hand stores) have sales every monday that a certain color tag is only 99cents, so I try to go on that day when I go and I get a bunch of stuff (and sometimes names brand stuff that is better quality than if I were to go buy it brand new at say walmart or something) for super cheap

some people think that is "gross" to get 2nd hand clothes but you would be surprised at what some people give away, I have even found brand new with tags still attached stuff at these stores and other stuff that looks like it may have only been worn a few times....anyways that is my biggest "secret"

Shanna, I also check Once Upon A Child (a second-hand store for kids' stuff) before I head anywhere else. It definitely saves tons!!

we have once upon a child's here too

except the ones we have are all over in the city (about an hour drive from here) so I dont go there as often.....Im a huge gymboree-aholic, which actually is one of the things that got me into debt before I started budgeting, *I racked up $4000+ in just little girls clothes right after my daughter was born

dh was a little upset with me!! * Anyways one of the ways I now deal with my "obsession"

is to get gymboree stuff but get it 2nd hand most the time (I do sometimes still go to gymboree when they have sales but I really have to limit myself) my other "secret" is that when I get it 2nd hand I try to resell it either at another 2nd hand store or on ebay and there have been several times Ive made money on stuff that I bought 2nd hand to begin with and had Lily wear!!

The boys stuff like I said before usually ends up stained or whatever so I cant resell most of that

but I do "hand me down" to Gavin from Jake
