  • Our washer quit working right so the man came out today. I don't know how old it is because it came with the house when we bought 4 years ago. It's a Kenmore and has always worked great until now. Well he fixed it to the tune of $185.00. I just wonder if that was a smart decision? I know we couldn't afford a new one now especially the kind I would want. What do you guys think?

  • well, if that's all you could afford, then that was a good decision.

But if it were me, I would be putting away $20-30 each month to save up for a new washer/dryer. The washers are the first to go usually....

I personally don't think it's worth the $ to fix - it's like putting money into a sinking ship. But if that's all you can afford to do.. then there really isn't any better option.

  • I think that $185 is a lot cheaper than $500 for a new one, so it was the right choice for you right now. I agree, though, that it's probably best to start saving for a new one and keep your fingers crossed that your $185 will bridge the gap between the new and the old.
