  • There seems to be a holiday for all sorts of things nowadays, and according to an article in the online money magazine Walletpop, this month happens to be National Coupon Month.
    From its humble beginnings as an insert for the Sunday morning paper, to online couponing and now a more glamorous status as a mobile app where you just have to show the clerk the coupon code, the coupon is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The first true coupon appeared in 1909, when grocer C.W. Post offered a penny off his new cereal, Grape-Nuts.
    According to the Promotion Marketing Association (PMA) around 89% of the population says they use coupons when shopping for grocery, household and healthcare items at supermarkets, saving an average of 7% on their grocery bills.
