Question Private or public grade school?

Do you (or do you plan to) send your children to private or public grade school? What's your reasoning for your decision?

Kimmie is going to public grade school. origionally my ex and I had planned on putting her into private school, but now, I just don't have the money. Besides I figure elementary school is fairly harmless. I would still like to get her into a private school by the time she is in high school. We have a really nice college prep school here.

Even though Dave Ramsey says that private schools aren't the smartest financial move, and I had a wonderful public school experience, we plan to send the girls to our parish school.

The tuition is our main concern but once we're out of debt, it won't be a problem. Right now, we're paying at least $1400/month toward or debt reduction. The kindergarten tuition at our parish school is about $1800/year, I think. The grade school tuition is about $2500/year. So really, that won't be that much once we're out of debt.

The public school in our town is actually a pretty good system (and as a teacher, I'm kind of particular), but we just like the atmosphere at our parish school and are excited at the prospect of the girls attending that school.

I'm sending Brendan to catholic school. We're actually zoned for a decent public school, but I want more for his education than going to a "decent" school. He's had a wonderful year there so far in pre-K and it's well worth the money to me. I'm paying the parish rate, so it costs about $3500, plus donations to the parish and the zillion and one contributions and fundraisers during the year.

It all depends on what area we are living in once they hit school age.. we are thinking public if we are still in our currnet area.. it's a superb SD.

And we also calculated how much we will save once they are in School..

currently we shell out $18,000 a year in Child care!!
