39 Days Old - Another Positive Culture By Levi Lynn

Another blood culture was started yesterday and came back positive for infection. This was from blood that was drawn from a peripheral vein rather than the PICC line. Lilly will continue getting blood cultures drawn until she is cleared of the infection. She appears to be feeling much better today, she's fiesty again. The Dr. decided to ween her back off of the CPAP to a regular nasal canula like she was on before she got sick. Right after the CPAP mask was taken off, he was awake and smiling a bunch at all of us. It was pretty fun to see her happy again.

The lab has determined the strain of infection and confirmed that the antibiotics that are being used are effective against the particular infection she has. We're anxious now for a negative culture so that the Dr. can order a new PICC line be put in and the old one removed. We don't need her getting re-infected by a tainted PICC line again.

Some more good news is that she some how has been able to gain some weight during all of this sickness. Keep in mind though that she was weighed in her bed last night so there is some room for error. She gained 105 grams to 1360 total grams or 3 POUNDS EVEN. She is definately starting to look a bit pudgier in her face and legs.

Yesterday she had 6 events, 3 didn't require any stimulation, 2 needed a little stimulation but one was considered a stim 4 where she needed repeated stimulation and increased oxygen. She did eventually recover but her oxygen level and heart rate were slow to come back to normal.

We are a bit discouraged that she keeps having these setbacks due to infection. The strength that she showed us this morning though keeps us encouraged that she'll start doing better soon.
