Smile First line...

A fun and common thread I see on another book site I post on is regarding book first lines. Each person posts the title and author of the book they are reading, plus they include the first line of the book. I thought this might be something fun we could do here. Anyone game?

What the heck. I'll start...

The Bar Code Rebellion by Suzanne Weyn

"Kayla Reed spoke directly into the camera as it closed in on her earnest face."

Okay, not the most interesting sentence there. Sorry. I'm telling you though, the people love this kind of thread on my other board. It must be interesting at some point. hehe

Okay, here's mine:

The Petty Details of So-and-So's Life by Camilla Gibb

"A photograph."

Yep, that's the first sentence in the book. Doesn't really give you much to go on does it.

I'm reading this month's book club selection, Lapham Rising by Roger Rosenblatt:

Bang bang bang bang bang.

Hmm. This REALLY doesn't seem to be working so far!

Let's try the last book I finished, My Life as a Fake by Peter Carey:

"I have known John Slater all my life."

Hmmm, not much more exciting. How about Her by Laura Zigman:

"She was my fiance's ex-fiancee; the mother of all exes; my worst nightmare incarnate."

That's much better!
