I guess I should post a follow up now that I've finished the book.

This was definitely hard to read at times, especially being the father of two girls. I'll warn you right now there are some pretty graphic descriptions of the abuse. However it was very insightful and informative. The scary part about this book is the reader is forced into the position of voyeur; watching a predator captures his prey. You obviously can see and notice things they author never would at such a young age and so often you feel like you want to reach out and stop her or call the police about her. But it's all in the past. All you can do is learn from it. This book shows you, painfully clearly, just how a pedophile operates. You see the web of lies and deception that is weaved around the little girl, her family, and others that allow this abuse to happen. You also see the deception that the abuser uses against himself, as he convinces himself that what he's doing is ok, and it's actually love. While in actuality he is causing so much harm to the author. Most importantly, in the end, you see that the author does eventually realize the horrible reality of her relationship with her abuser and you see how she has grown and learned from the experience and is now a better person (and mother).
