  • I am new here. DH and I have been through about two years of donor IUI's before throwing in the towel and moving to adoption. Today, i got a letter from my old doctor about a clinical trial that is available to me. According to the letter, the trial would cover all medications and a stipend reducing the cost of a typical IVF by about 80%. How much is the IVF procedure- roughly?

Though I've never really thought about IVF, I'm just curious to see if this might be an option for us. Thanks so much!

    Why were you doing IUIs?
Where are you located? I am in Michigan and it costs around $10,000 for 1 IVF cycle. Yet, I have heard in CA, it can cost up to $20,000. What clinical trial is it? How did become available to you?

We were doing IUI's due to DH having azoospermia (with donor sperm). The trial is through Boston IVF and it's called a 'phase III clinical trial sponsered by Ferring Pharmaceuticals'. The objective is to compare two different vaginal progesterone preparations used after egg retrieval. It will compare the meds Crinone and Endometrin. I am not sure if I would qualify, my doctor sent me the letter from Boston IVF in case we are interested in seeing if we meet the criteria.

Is the 10,000 including medications or is that a separate cost?

  • Alicia,

I am from Maine and I go through Boston IVF for mt treatments. The cost of our 1st cycle was approx. 12,000 (and that includes Boston's cost, meds., 3 ultra sounds with blood work). This cycle will cost us significantly more (probably around 15,000) because our doc. had to change a few things with us such as meds and he added ICSI because my eggs weren't fertilizing on their own. I would love to hear more about the trial. I think I will also give the office a call and ask. Due to the costs, this will probably be our last try, so we are praying it works this time. Good luck if you go for it. Missy

  • Mine was about 30K. I live in Alaska and had to go to Minneapolis. But it was worth it because now I'm PG! PS I love saying that. Leslie
