I have PLENTY of experience with HPTs. The dollar store ones do work fine - however they can have evaporation lines a lot. But if it truely is a strong line, then it is a true positive.

I tested negative with a dollar store HPT on the day my blood beta HCG was 3. The next day the dollar store HPT was positive, as was the EPT brand HPT. Although I did not have another beta HCG test for a week, I was indeed pregnant. So I figure they do pick up very low levels, but not all the way down to 3. My level was probably around a 10-20 the day it turned positive. (I had triplets in there so my levels were rising quickly at the time.)
