My dh is sterile and we were still advised AGAINST any intercourse after our IUI. I must also say I never really worried about diseases from samples since they are so rigorously tested here in Canada - more testing than in US. Of course not everything is fool proof and there still have been problems!

Hoping beginner's luck strikes you!!!

Welcome to the world of sperm shopping!!! Hopefully this will be your one and only purchase. I have no advice to give about mixing sperm...probably best to ask the doctor. Is Dr. Rinaldi doing the procedure?

Thanks so much for your replies and sorry I didn't respond sooner - I went away for a weekend arts workshop, came home, immediately had my surge and went for DIUI #1 this afternoon! Everything seemed to be fine in terms of timing and the doc said the donor count was good - I was so nervous! Yes it was Dr. Rinaldi doing the insem Alicia. As it turns out, the reason she doesn't do them on weekends is because the lab next door isn't open to wash the sperm. But now that we're doing DIUI we don't need the lab, and she said she'd come in on a weekend if she had to.

I'm pretty excited and actually allowed myself to read those baby mags in the waiting room and picture myself wearing maternity clothes. During the last six months or so of IUIs I really stopped expecting any chance of success - I drank wine at dinner and parties, stopped taking vitamins, etc. Bad, I know, but the whole thing was making me feel so disgusted and depressed that I just couldn't stay vigilant. But now begins the 2WW, this time for real! Although I realize the chances of success are at most 20%, and probably less due to the frozen sperm and my "advanced" age (37).

As for buying just one vial, well, I agree it was probably pretty shortsighted. In my excitement & nervousness today I forgot to even ask the doc of she has a cryo storage tank (kinda doubt it though). I think my brain is just kind of overwhelmed with the whole thing - the timing, the money, choosing a donor, really committing to this next step - and one vial is all I could handle thinking about. I'm the kind of person that when I go swimming I get in the water very slowly, a little bit at a time. I guess I'm taking the same approach.

And thanks for the advice about mixing sperm - we definitely won't do that! I'll keep you posted!

Thanks for all of your support!
