Question Flower tips

I ended up buying some mums and azaleas for the little area underneath my bay window in the front of our townhouse.

They look great so thanks for all the suggestions.

I was wondering if you ladies could tell me how I should take care of them besides the obvious watering daily. The azaleas seem to be doing great, but the mums blooms have started dying. Should I pull off the flower tips? Do I need to use some type of flower food occasionally? I'm a gardening dummy so any advice is welcomed!

what kind of azaleas did you buy? (they have evergreen ones and ones that drop their leaves in winter)
Azaleas like acidic soil, they will need special fertilizer on them right after they bloom in the late spring and thru the summer periodically. You can buy the specially formulated fertilizer at any store that sells garden stuff. (it even says it's for azaleas and rhododendrons right on the bo

the mum are oftentimes just annuals but sometimes you get lucky and get mums that come back year after year. You can cut off the blooms and just leave the green leaves. Once it's done blooming, leave it be and let it die back for the winter. when it's nothing but deadness and it's january, clip it at the ground and it'll be an empty space until spring when it starts growing from scratch again.

Thanks Karen!!

I honestly don't remember what azaleas we bought - I'll have to double check the little label next time I'm in the storage area. I hope we ended up with the evergreen ones because the front of the house will look really dumb all winter with dead looking azaleas and the empty spots from the mums.
