I can add a few, but I need tips for the second!!

*Follow your instincts and don't let anyone else tell you how to parent, you have mommy radar for a reason!

*I totally agree with a little (or a lot) of stool softeners, you'll need them for after the fact!! (and not just for a day or two)

**Lansinoh should be a product you know well if you are breastfeeding.

*the ice is a great idea on the girl part

*Make sure you know your car seat and how it works, do you know how to adjust the straps?

*Sleep when baby sleeps!!! Don't be afraid to sleep when people are there either, moms understand!

*Stock up on paper products so people don't have to do dishes, mainly YOU.

*you can never have enough burp rags, they do so much more

*you'd be SHOCKED how far newborn poop can fly, so watch out!!

*Dont' feel like a failure if bfing doesn't work, if you gave it your best effort, that's the best you gave to your baby.

Ooh, LeAnne made me think of another one for those first time mommies. The nurse told me this at the ob's office and it helped me so much.

As far as delivery goes, it's great to have an idea and a plan of how you would like to deliver, but do not get your heart set on something because it may not work and you will be disappointed/upset. You may want an epi, and can't have one, or the opposite may be true.

Oh, and don't think because you've btdt that you'll be more prepared. If you're anything like me,you'll be just as clueless as you were the firs time around, except you'll have another kid who is going to get up at 7:30, whether the baby or you has slept or not.

If you really want to breastfeed, something I wish I'd known and nobody ever told me, and I will try it with #2 someday hopefully, is I wanted so badly to breastfeed, but I had a horrible time trying to breastfeed (poor latch, previous breast reduction) , (Noah would seriously eat for an hour every other hour because my supply was crappy I think) and the nurses at the hospital just gave me formula and said here you go! I sooooo wish I would have breastfed for a shorter period each time, and then supplemented, but instead I tried so hard my nipples seriously almost fell off, sorry TMI, and then I couldn't breastfeed him at all for over a week due to the bleeding/pain, and then my supply was even worse and I ended up bottle feeding. I hope that made sense.

First of all, those of you who are approaching full term (probably a lot of us) remember these 3 words- Evening Primrose Oil! I went from a tightly closed cervix to 70% effacement with my little girl in 6 days because of EPO! Also, walk a ton (or as much as you can, !)... it WILL work both for BP and helping with effacement and therefore dilation!
If you feel strongly about breastfeeding, as I know I do... Find a lactation consultant in your area (if you deliver in a hospital, ask if there is one on staff there) Our LC was a huge blessing to us, and continues to be as I have a happy nursing 16 month old and am about about to bring #2 into the world.
If you want to go for a natural labor, PRACTICE BEFOREHAND! Train with your husband, let him be your coach- your strength when you have none, your voice when you cant speak thru the intensity of labor. My husband was my saving grace- he knew how adament I was about going without drugs, and we were SO very in tune with each other that he knew what I needed as far as positioning, massaging etc. No there's no tangible prize except for knowing you did the safest thing for your baby... If you decide to get the drugs... Do the research by reading info by an impartial but educated 3rd party- not a pharmaceutical company, as is the case with so much drug info! They aren't risk-free, and doctors & pharmaceutical companies will not always be honest with you in that department. I highly recommend reading Husband-Coached Childbirth by Dr. Bradley (the Bradley Method) regardless of how you think or feel labor should or should not go. It's a great resource, and presents the facts well! Most importantly, remember that in the end regardless of your actual birth plan played out in reality you will be holding a beautiful, healthy newborn and the fruits of your labor (literally) will be in your arms! Oh, and 1 more thing... make sure you have a camera in your pocket if delivering in a hospital. We delivered too quickly to get our camera out of the car with our first baby, and did not get pics right after the birth... My husband had to run and get it afterwards... Make sure you have it with you, cause you never know! Oh, yeah and I HEART Tucks Pads... Definitely have those on hand!!!!! Ok, so a lot of randomness, but I hope some of this helps... Take care y'all! Cant wait to see baby pics and hear labor stories!! God Bless!

If you have kids already, it doesn't matter how fast or short or hard or easy your first labor was, this one WILL BE DIFFERENT!!!

My first labor, because of an infection, took 45 minutes after my water broke (long story short, I called about a week or two before ds was born asking about why my back hurt so bad, they told me to think nothing of it and take some Tylenol, if things get worse come in... So I did the same thing next time as well, minus the calling in. THEN my water broke and ds was born 45 minutes later! Luckily, we lived 10 minutes, tops, from the hospital!) It was ALL back labor too!

DD on the other hand, took 14 hours to arrive after my water broke! Things hurt MUCH MUCH more, even though everything this time was felt up front, NO back labor at all.
