Default LH surge on day 9?

Hello! I am brand new to this entire TTC thing. I have spent 15 years on the pill trying NOT to get pregnant. I am in my second month off Yaz, and recently bought the clear blue easy ovulation test kit.
So...I charted my cycle at 34 days, which I know is on the long side, and most websites have said to not begin testing for ovulation until day 17. Well, I tested on day 9 just to get the hang of it and make sure the thing worked- and Voila! I had a smiley face LH surge staring back at me. Now I am so confused!
Is it possible to ovulate on day 9 of a 34 day cycle? Or should I start testing again to see if it was a mistake? I am now on day 15 of my cycle, and any advice would be much appreciated. I am 33 and need to get pregnant ASAP.
Thanks!!

I would chart at least a couple more months. Another member here recommends a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility (I think) and she says it helps alot.

Thanks for the advice! I ordered the book already, and am continuing to chart. I did have another LG surge, using clear blue easy, on day 16, so I am now even more confused!! Did the BD every other day after both surges, so fingers crossed!
