Dh and I just paid down our home equity loan so to qualify for a refi of the big mortgage. (we didn't have enough equity to qualify originally since home values went down). This refi seemed like it was going to be a piece of cake-the mortgage co originally said they would send a notary to us and we could close at home. Of course the title lawyer that we were matched with does not do in-home closings, so we are stuck going to them. We are closing on Wednesday-two days before Christmas Eve, and they are located right near one of the biggest shopping malls in the area and are 30 miles away from home. Between rush hour traffic, shopping traffic and distance it should take us about an hour each way (maybe more on the way home!). Thankfully, my mom said yes to watching the kids so we at least don't have to drag them with us!
I have to keep telling myself that the savings we will see every month will make it all worth it!

Fingers crossed that the traffic isn't as bad as you anticipate! GL - and the savings will be worth it!

Is there anything else you need to do while you are out that way? Any big store that you don't have near home that you could "make the most" out of the trip? Since the kids are being watched, maybe you and DH could get a dinner out? Just an idea.
