Default Anemic

Did anyone have problems with their 6-8 week old baby being anemic?

How do you know/why do you think she's anemic??

My child's Ped thought he was anemic since his iron appeared to be low... he even took iron supplements for a while. Then we figured out that he had thalassemia minor... which BASICALLY means that his red blood cells are shaped differently. It makes his blood appear to be lacking iron, when in fact, it might be on the lower side of normal, but it's still NORMAL. He doesn't need any medications & he can do everything/anything other kids do... no special treatment.

I know she's adopted... but if by chance you happen to know if she has any Mediterranean/Italian descent (or think she might be!)... you might want to get that checked out. It's a simple blood test.

No. I use the similac with iron formula that was recommended and haven't had any problems with iron levels.

Well when we went to the doctors the other day the first thing her doctor said was "wow she is very white, I bet she is anemic." She said it a few times, but just kept telling us to make sure we are feeding her formula with iron.

I was so worried about the shots, I didn't even think to ask them to test her iron. I guess I just wonder if I should take her back and have her tested, or if she will be ok. The doctor did say most babies low iron peaks at about 8 weeks.
