Smile Labour Questions

Hi Everyone,

I'm just looking for some advice, I'm almost 39 weeks pregnant. I went to the midwife on Monday, they told me that I was 1 to 2 cms dilated, my cervixs was looking favorable and they did a stretch and sweep. He even asked me if I would be happy if she came this week. He said I was ready to go it was just a matter of my body going into actual labour.

I lost my mucus plug last night, and my stomach as been feeling a little tight off and on. Just wondering if anybody as experienced this and if this sounds like the beginning stages of labour. This is my first baby so I have no idea.

I've tried a few things to try to induce labour since monday like having sex, walking, and I even tried castor oil (which had no effect on me). Still nothing. Any advice or stories of people who have been through the same thing is greatly appericated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jeanie,

Welcome to Baby Corner. Congratulations on the arrival of your first baby!!

It does sound like you are in the beginning stages of labor. I actually had that problem with my first daughter. The tightness you are feeling are small contractions or Braxton Hicks contractions which is how your cervix was able to dilate to 2cm. If you lost your mucous plug, labor should start any minute like your midwife said!

I never lost my mucous plug with either of my children. I walked miles with my first to try and induce, while drinking raspberry tea at the same time! It was quite comical to say the least.

Be patient though. Your baby will come when it's time. Walking is good for you and will help you prepare for actual labor, and it might help to make labor progress. But, be sure to rest. You will need it!

Good luck!
