Default has anyone ever...

had thier child switched from one teacher to another before school starts?
I had so many problems with Kimmie's teacher last year. And I really wanted her switched mid year, but it became such on ordeal the principal convinced us to finish the year. I've already been warned by other parentsa about a 2nd grade teacher who would probably be worse for Kim. Unfortunately, we don't find out teacher assignment until 2 days before school starts. I just wondered if I go in and find out she's been assigned to that teacher how difficult it will be. My Dh works in our school district so I don't want to get a rep as being a difficult parent, but we had some real issues last year.

Yes! I did it with DS for years and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I'd ask his current teacher for a rec. on who would best suit his personality and learning style then take chicken salad or a box of brownies to the principal's secretary during the time I knew she was working up class lists. Many times he was already in the right room per current teachers request. I know kids have to learn to deal with different people out in the real world and as he got older I backed off but I don't regret safeguarding my first choice in classrooms.

Why not get him to check it out and switch her?

I'm hoping that Kimmie will already be put with a really good teacher for her since I had a long 2 hour sit down with the principal, her 1st grade teacher, my ex and both our spouses (also school teachers) so the principal should have a pretty good understanding of Kimmie's learning style and personality quirks. I'm just covering my bases. I don't want Kim to learn to hate school because she clashes with the teacher. Last years was a loser with a capital L! She had too many personal problems interfereing with her teaching and she would only communicate with us when things really escalated, so we'd go along for a while thinking everythign was fine only to find out later that Kim would miss recess for weeks because of infractions.

I would call and ask for her to be placed in the room you want her, with having previous conversations with the principle I would hope she would welcome your in put so Kimmie has the best year possiable. I would not wait for the list to be out because then Kimmie will have kids asking why arn't you in my class you were on my list? YKWIM??
