Question Sensory Intergration/Processing Disorder?

Hi! Anyone's little one have this dx? I'm looking in to getting Aislinn evaluated for it. She has always been very fearful of loud noises and hasn't habituated to them and I'm now putting some pieces together with her love of being covered/surrounded by pillows, blankets and such and her physical impulsivity and her inability to be gentle. She's a brute! But she does it with love.

Interested to hear about others' experiences. THanks!

I work with special needs kids and have works with kids with that dx- sounds like you need a good Occupational Therapy evaluation. I share an office with OT's who work with LOTS of these kiddos. Sensory Integration Therapy can REALLY work so it is good that you are pursuing this!

Peyton was dx with Visual and Auditory Processing Disorder. We are in the process of having him tested for Aspergers. Peyton is extremely aggressive. I hope you get some answers soon. There are more ppl here who have sensory disorders. I am sure they could help you better than i.

Thanks! I'm an early childhood specialist and was a preschool teacher for 10 years. I've always been curious about her behaviors, but I've been waiting to see if they were just developmental or a function of her temperament, rather than jumping on the panicky-deficit bandwagon that so many people do in the educational climate we have today.

The other thing that I'm actually a little more concerned about is her lack of development in representational art. She uses art materials in exactly the same way she has since she was a toddler. Lots of scribbling and layers of paint on a page, but no attempts to represent.

But, her strengths! So verbal, energetic, imaginative, musical and loving . . .

She sounds alot like Peyton. With the scribbling and painting! Pate is also so imaginative. The other day he saw a sling shot...he came to me with a pen, a paperclip he bent and a rubberband he broke and tied to each end of the paper clip and attached it all to the pen with another rubberband. I was shocked that he could just think of just the right things to use. He has also made windmills with paper, a raft with sticks and all kinds of things. I never thought about half the stuff he thinks about. LOVES music and dancing. He is definately mommys little engineer. Aislinn sounds so much like him. Their Perfect!!!
