Question So what do you do?

Hi!!! I'm trying out this SAHM thing now, only without the baby for a few more weeks! LOL
I go to grad school online and start Friday. Since I've never been unemployed and not had to go to class, this is al new to me!
DH suggested I create a routine. He says I should get up at the same time everyday and block out certain time that is JUST for school work, or nap time, or housework. Which I think is a great idea...just wondering if I can acutally stick to it.
Do any of you SAH/WAH mom's have a routine? Do you stray from you schedule much? How do you get things done? Give me some ideas please!!!

well..we have a routine only b/c my kids are in school. Before my 1st went to school I would get up everyday..shower, dressed and try to get out somewhere.
I would do basic stuff..run errands, clean, visit friends/playdates, etc. but in no particular order.

I do suggest trying to do something most days so you don't get in a rut of sitting around all day ( which is easy to get in the habit of

I was never one to "sit home" before having kids. I worked up until I went into labor at 36 weeks with my first. I did go back to work after but stopped after my DS was born. I am surviving so far

definately most DEFINATELY a routine!!

If for no other reason than the kids really require one.

I get up and shower before DH leaves for work so that the kids are never left 'unsupervised'. (one can argue whether or not DH is actually supervising at all though

when the kids are really young and are doing 2 naps. I would stay home all morning to make sure that the naps were not uninterrupted. I had the morning home routine.
afternoon was always at home for lunch. Then the afternoon was home for afternoon naps.
If I went out for errands, I tried to do it inbetween naps so that they were never interrupted so they were short.

When the kids were a little older, then I made a routine of going out in the mornings to do something fun with the kids, and the home routine in the afternoon for afternoon naps.
Tuesdays, I took them to a roller skating class (yes, for toddlers and the parents could walk on the floor and you could bring strollers onto the floor too).
Wednesdays I would go to a playgroup. (at an indoor gym put on by the city's rec department). It was a minimal cost.
Fridays, we did story time at the library (for free)

I didn't always do rollerskating, and I didn't always do the playgroup. But it was often enough...

then I would throw in other special trips to go feed the ducks or take a hike at a local park when the weather was slightly better. (all in the morning in place of those morning naps)
if I needed to do errands, those were on the other 'nonscheduled days'.

Now that the kids are in school -- they are STILL doing quiet time in the afternoon on weekends or 1/2 days of school and they actually need that down time to themselves. My DS is upset when he doesn't get it and I take him on errands instead.

Definately routines are very important. For you and for the kids. You'll find you get a whole lot done if you do it that way too.

activites in your area like storytime or mommy and me classes in your town are good ideas. We did both of these!

I did the same thing as Karen with naps..I tried to be home for naptime to keep the schedule..it was harder once my second one was in school/activites though.

get a rountine...I'm a sahm now with my DD and it wasn't because I wanted to but for health reasons. It is very easy to fall into the trap of sitting around watching tv

but with your studying to distract you, I'm sure you will find a routine. Lucy only naps for 20 mins 3 times a day so its hard to do anything while she naps but most babies do nap for 1.5/2hrs at a time so you should get some studying done.
