Question Eye care

When is the appropriate age for your child to see the eye doctor? This is the time to add insurance and since Im adding Kaitlyn to the dental plan now, Im wondering if I should just choose eyecare for her also.

I took Douglas when he was around a year and I would like to get him in again sometime, since both DH and I wear glasses.

So I guess what I'm trying to get at is anytime is a good time to get her eyes checked out!

I would ask your pediatrician or call a couple of local ophthalmologists to get their opinions. My mom worked for one for 28 years and I should know this answer!

We took Aislinn to my mom's docs when she was just a few months old because she had a possible hemangioma growing behind her right eye. They checked for tracking ability and looked with the ophthalmoscope into her eye to try to look for the hemangioma and any other issues.

My older son Joe has an astigmatism in his left eye which Daddy has and is hereditary, so I am chomping at the bit to get Tommy in. His opthomologist said not to bring Tommy in until he is 3.5 or four so we can get him to read the symbol eye chart. I'd love to get him on now, but I know he isn't ready to sit for any exam yet.
