many people here call it a binky not because it's a nickname, but because that's actually a brand name for one pacifier maker.

sort of like how all refrigerators were called frigidaires in the beginning and most people call tissues Kleenex. (which is a brand name)

yes oscar wilde was right when he said we english have everything in common with america except of course language! most interesting difference ive come across = we say tell off a child, you say 'get after'. i asked about this in the website forum for my webhost and i had an avalanche of horrified replies from america! and i run a website about toddlers!
