Question hi mrssandy!

Hey!!

I read your post and had a few questions for you. . . My DH kinda remembers being told quite a few years ago that he had the varicoles too but of course, he can't remember everything the doctor said... (and he doesn't think it's that big of a deal or that he could be infertile

)

1. What type of doctor did DH go too? I'm trying to figure out how to get my DH looked at.
2. What exactly does the surgery do? I've read that it doesn't increase the male fertility very much. What did the doc tell you guys?
3. Are you going to try IUI before or after the surgery?

Thanks so much for your help. Sorry I had a lot of questions just your previous post really hit home. DH accused me last night of jumping to conclusions with him. I just feel that all of our tries have been kind of worthless since he could potentially have something wrong too. Thanks for listening!

Well...

The doc gave us mounds of literature on the surgery and the cost etc. As many as 40% of men have varicoles, but 60% of infertile men have them so that leads most docs to believe that is has some effect on some people. We went to a urologist who specializes in male infertility. Most urologists should be able to check him out. This one just works with my obgyn. it's my understanding that the surgery will either move or reroute those blood vessels that are wrapped around the testicles. The more blood that is down there, the more heat. It makes sense, althgough we were told there is no guarantee. It also it fairly invasive surgery.

As far as IUI...

Next week he goes in for another analysis. At this time, they will do another count and also see if his sperm can penetrate a hampster egg. This is to see if they are strong enough. If all is well, we can proceed with IUI as soon as possible. If things are still not quite right, we'll be considering surgery.

If you'd like a copy of the articles that we were given, I'd be happy to give send or fax them to you. Just email me!

((lurking))
DH had a varicele several years ago (before we were married and before we were ttc) and had successfull surgery by a Urologist. They do laprascopic surgery through the groin area and basically cauterize the vessel. He had some pain after the surgery which subsided in a few days.

B4 surgery, his sperm count was okay, after, it was great!

We now have 2 children.

Wow! That's great news! I'm waiting to hear from my nurse today on when DH can go for a count and which doctor she recommend for his varicoles... I really want him to get checked soon.
