Default MIL vent

I've been going to post about this and kept forgetting.

A few weekends ago the inlaws were over for dinner. I haven't had them over in ages because they REALLY made me mad and I told Nate no more, but I eventually gave in.

So anyhow MIL was asking how things were going TTC, and I told her the latest diagnosis of early menopause and that we had decided that we're not trying anymore and will focus 100% on fostering/adopting. If you guys can believe it she stood right in my kitchen and started crying saying she can't believe that we're giving up!!!!!!! HELLO are you lending us the thousands of dollars it is costing us to continue treatment? Have you EVER called and comforted us when a cycle has failed? Once in a blue moon she asks how things were going and she thinks she has a right to make me feel bad for giving up? Excuse me but where the hell has she been this last 3.5 years? Then she proceeded to tell me how easy it was for her to get pg and of course she had to tell me the miracle adoption theory.

Let me tell you it will be a long time before they are invited to my house again. I swear I could just kill people sometimes when they open their stupid mouths.

Another thing that has been irking me is all the negative comments we hear about fostering. Seems almost everyone we tell has a horror story to share. "Be careful, they have all been abused and will grow up to be drug addicts" yadda yadda So I told Nate that from now on when we get a pg announcement from someone I'm going to say "you better be careful, your kid might grow up to be a criminal drug dealer" How would someone like for us to say that when they announce their plans to become parents? ugh

Sorry for venting, I must be grumpy today.

erin, I'm sorry you had to deal with your MIL and her insensitive and very stupid remarks. You are a stronger woman that I am let me tell you. I think your reply to pg announcements is absolutely spot on, noboy in their right mind would think about saying that to a pg person but have no qualms about dragging you and Nate down with their remarks. You have every right to be p'd off. I think it is amazing what you and Nate are doing and any child will be blessed to know you and be part of your lives. They'll certainly be better people because of you both.

I can't believe she stood in your kitchen and put you through the wringer like that. If she is so upset about it then she should help out, other then just expecting it to happen. Besides you and Nate would be wonderful parents, whether they were biological or not. You have such a huge heart and an enormous capacity for love.....idiot/ignorrant people are the bane of the rational world.
