Default sad news

Hi all,

We have some very sad news to report. We will not be adopting the boys.

It all happened pretty fast. This past Saturday afternoon, the grandparents came to pick up the boys (for a planned visit) and take them to the park. When grandma brought them back at 10:15 P.M. (when she was supposed to be back by 8:30 P.M.), she said that Dominic cried the whole way back and said he didn't want to come back here. She said that she could not, in good concience, leave them here with us. Then she took off with them still in the car.

We called grandpa right away (who was at home sleeping) and he said he would talk to her about it. The next day he called and said that he needed some time to deal with her. He asked that we give him a few days and asked that we not give up.

Well today grandpa called and said that there is no more he can do. Grandma keeps making up a million different excuses as to why she doesn't want to give the boys up. He said that she has been acting "out of control" for a while now and there's nothing he can do to convince her to bring them back to us.

I've tried to call grandma and left 2 messages for her, but she hasn't returned my calls. She probably realizes that she has screwed us over, and is afraid to speak with us. She's making a terrible decision and she's ruining the boys' chance at a good future.

Grandpa is really upset about this too. He has always told us that we are doing a great job with the boys. He has said that he doesn't have a doubt in his mind that we were the right couple to raise the boys. Unfortunately he just doesn't have any pull with his wife.

We have no legal recourse here because the grandparents are still the boys' guardians, but we may ask that she reimburse us for all the legal fess we have paid over the last 8 months.

To make matters worse, we found out the other day that the birth father plans to contest that his parental rights be terminated and he wants to seek custody. We cannot fight the birth mother AND the birth father without the full support of both grandparents.

So unfortunately, we have decided that we have done all we can do and we cannot continue with this adoption. We are not giving up. . . we have been forced into this decision.

Thanks to all of you for your continuing support over the months.
