Default Should I try Clomid? W/OBGYN? RE?

I'm 40 and I believe I am ovulating. I think the problem is sustaining the pregnancy during the luteal phase. My OBGYN has suggested that he can prescribe clomid for me. We already have one daughter who will be 3 in June.

Is it safe to take clomid w/an OBGYN who is not an expert in fertility? Fertility is not covered by my insurance/HMO so I don't think he was going to necessarily run all of the recommended tests prior to prescribing.

Does anyone know where to get good information about this? Is it best to go to an RE if you're goijng to take clomid? Why/why not?

what about risk of twins?

Thanks!
Jan

I think it is probably just fine to take clomid under your OB/GYN. We took it for a fertility test with an RE and got preggers that way (we thought we were going to have to do WAY more to get pregnant, lol), but when we try for number 2 we are going to get clomid from my OB. We aren't going to go back to the RE unless we really need to (my insurance covered fertility testing, but no treatment). As far as twins or multiples, our RE told us the risk with clomid is only slightly higher than without. It is more the injectible meds that stimulate LOTS of follicles and raises the risk of multiples much higher. I say go for it!!
