I have some questions you may be able to answer....

Is it possible to ovulate before I take my trigger shot? Should I be having backup intercourse now?

Suppose I have 2 mature follicles, and then 3-4 less mature ones, and I give myself the hcg shot. What happens then? Do I release ALL the follicles, and only the mature ones are capable of being fertilized and making a baby (supposedly), or do only the mature ones release?

I have no clue with fertility meds as I haven't taken that course, but it seems reasonable that you could ovulate on your own before the trigger! I might make a quick call into your dr, or just have fun regardless!

If you're trying for a girl, you'll want the sperm right there waiting for the egg!

I'm unsure about the immature follicles. With a non medicated cycle, only one should be released while the others will calm down. If they don't then you'll end up with ovarian cysts! As you are taking meds to force the eggs out, I assume both will be released that are mature. I'm not sure what the meds will do to the immature ones. I might ask your dr. that as well when you call!

Q - Is it possible to ovulate before I take my trigger shot? Should I be having backup intercourse now?

A - Yes, very possible.

Q - Suppose I have 2 mature follicles, and then 3-4 less mature ones, and I give myself the hcg shot. What happens then? Do I release ALL the follicles, and only the mature ones are capable of being fertilized and making a baby (supposedly), or do only the mature ones release?

A - It depends on their final size but it's very possible for any mature follicles to release an egg, and it's possible for the immature ones to catch up enough to be mature enough to be released in the 36 hours after the hcg trigger. There was some study I read when we were doing our IUI's, that follicles as small as 14 were capable of being fertilised (not sure about viability), but I can't find the study now.

Your Monday scan should give you a better picture on the sizes. Different specialists like different sizes, mine said that 18mm was mature enough, others say 20mm is.

How are you feeling?

NERVOUS! I'm nervous that this will work and I'll have too many in there (too many for a healthy pregnancy, that is). OTOH, I'm nervous this won't work and I'll have to wait till next year to start talking dh into ttc again when he has some more vacation days. If I've ovulated, they'll likely be able to see the collapsing follicle, right? Luckily we got started with some fun just in case.

Thank you thank you thank you... by the way.

If they scan you after the IUI then yes they should be able to see the final size or the fluid drained out from any follicles that have 'made the jump to hyperspace'!!

I have everything crossed for you Jeanne, and I'm going to be contacting you for 'giving shot' advice! Huge hugs
