Helpful for some of the common abbreviations used when talking about trying to conceive...

2WW: Two-week wait (the time from ovulation until you can take a pregnancy test)

AF: Aunt Flo (your period)

BBT: Basal Body Temperature
BD: Baby dance, sex
BCP: Birth Control Pills
BFN: Big Fat Negative (test result)
BFP: Big Fat Positive (test result)
BOB: Baby On the Brain/Baby Obsessed Brain (someone to blame when you're obsessing too much!)
BW: Blood work


CB: Cycle Buddy (someone who shares the same menstrual cycle dates)
CD: Cycle day (what day of your cycle you are on)
CL: Community Leader
CF: Cervical fluid
CM: Cervical mucus
CP: Cervical position

D&C: Dilation and Curettage
DI: Donor Insemination
DP: Dear partner; or significant other
DPIUI: Days Past IUI
DH: Dear Husband
DS: Dear Son
DD: Dear Daughter
DPO: Days past ovulation
DTD: Doing the dance, sex


EC: Egg collection (IVF)
EDD: Expected Due Date (pregnancy)
EWCM: Egg White Cervical Mucus (consistency of fertile cervical mucus)
ET: Embryo Transfer (IVF)

FET: Frozen Embryo Transfer
FSH: Follicle Stimulating Hormone
FMU: First morning urine


GP: General Practitioner

hCG: Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (pregnancy hormone)
HPT: Home Pregnancy Test
HSG: Hysterosalpingogram


ICI: Intra-cervical Insemination
ICSI: Intra-cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (a type of IVF)
IF: Infertility
IUI: Intra-uterine Insemination
IVF: In Vitro Fertilisation

KWIM: Know What I Mean?

LH: luteinising hormone
Lap: Laparoscopy
LMP: Last Menstrual Period
LOL: Laugh out loud or Lots of Love
LP: Luteal phase
LPD: Luteal Phase Defect

MC: Miscarriage

NP: Nurse Practitioner

O: Ovulation
OBGYN: Obstetric Gynaecologist
OB: Obstetrician
OMG: Oh My Goodness!
OPK: Ovulation predictor kit
OTD: Official Testing Day (often used inject-able/IVF cycles)
OT: Off Topic/Other Topic

PCOS: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
PCO: Poly Cycstic Ovaries (not the same as PCOS)
PG: Pregnant
PID: Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
PMS: Pre-menstrual Syndrome
POAS: Pee On A Stick
PUPO: Pregnant Until Proven Otherwise (often used in IVF)


RE: Reproductive Endocrinologist
RI: Reproductive Immunologist
ROTFLMAO ... Rolling on the floor laughing my a$$ off

SA: Semen analysis
STD ... Sexually Transmitted Disease


TCOYF: Taking Charge of Your Fertility (one of the most popular fertility books)
TTC: Trying to conceive

US: Ultrasound
UTI: Urinary Tract Infection

Thanks again Tracey!! This is very useful. I actually knew most of them, but there was a few that i didn't have a clue about. Especially PUPO. That's a term i'm sure we'll be using in the IVF thread.
