Arrow We went to panel to be approved to be foster carers today...

.... OMG

it was so daunting!

There were 14 people round the table, 17 if you include Bel (our social worker), Neil and myself. 14 people!! An interview in front of 14 people!!! Can you believe it??? It was like the X-Factor audition on speed or something!!

The good news is - they have recommended us to be approved!!!

Even better than that they actually said that they were SO impressed with us, that they would have no problem in recommending us for approval for adoption or fostering, and they were actually disappointed that we weren't going down that route.

Our social worker said when we were asked to leave the room for them to discuss our case that the fostering panel member and the adoption panel member were actually arguing over which out of adoption and fostering we were more suited to!!!

They commented on how excellent our profile was (thanks to our Social Worker), and they also said we had amazing references (thanks Susanne and Bryan

). And said that as a strong, young, married couple we were like gold-dust.

Honestly we are on

It's not the final hurdle, the panel only make a recommendation to the person who actually signs us off as foster carers, but they said it's very rare for them to disagree with the panels decision. We should get a letter confirming the final decision in a few days.

After the meeting today Neil really surprised me, he questioned whether we're doing the right thing in being on the IVF waiting list. He spoke about the stress of trying and possible failure and not wanting to be nearly 40 by the time he's a Dad. He's never said anything like that to me before. it really surprised me, perhaps we need to talk things over again.

If we do adoption then we'll not be eligible for IVF under the NHS, and if we're doing IVF then that will need to be completed before they'll let us adopt. Sigh
