I have only been TTC for 6 months, but I am a month away from being 35 and we had a chemical pregnancy in July so my first dr. appt is on Friday....so thanks for asking all those questions because I have the same ones! Let me know how your appointment went....I am so nervous, anxious, scared about my appt. as well. Just having made the appt. I was convincing myself that we probably couldn't have kids- even though I know that there is still a chance. It is really hard with everyone around you having babies (when many of them shouldn't) and with people telling you that you are trying to hard ot that you should just relax...we ALL know about that! Welcome! This is such a great group and is wonderful for sharing and venting!

to TBC. If it's been 2 years of trying, it's time to figure out why you haven't conceived. Most of the time, there's an answer to the "why".

Your doc will probably (and SHOULD) run several tests on you and on DH. This is the most comprehensive way to figure out what's going on.

DH and I tried for more than 2 years to have our third baby and had 5 miscarriages in that time. My regular OB assumed it was with me. We went to an RE and he discovered that our problem was with DH's sperm--not the COUNT but the HEALTH of the sperm. They were causing chromosomally abnormal babies. We took measures to correct that and we're finallye expecting a baby in February.

So don't just assume that it's with you or with DH--you never know until you test!!

There are so many reasons that couples don't conceive. Hopefully your doctor will be active in searching out that reason.

Do you chart your cycle?

I agree. They'll probably do some blood-tests on you and DH, and get him to do a SA (semen analysis), from there they might want to do some more tests, but they might find something that's easily fixed, but the blood-tests will more than likely be the first port of call. Is your Dr your family Dr or a fertility specialist? Oh BTW, when you go to your appointment take any details you have about your previous cycles.

I know it's easy for people to say, but as someone who's been TTC for almost 10 years, I want you to just take things one day at a time. The bigger picture is too overwhelming, so don't look at it. Focus on today and tomorrow and no more.

That way you won't get so overwhelmed. It's a lesson I took years to learn, but it's the only way I get through things now!

Take a deep breath and look on this appointment as a very positive step in becoming parents. Wishing you the very very best of luck, and sending you lots of 'positive' vibes

Default Update

Sorry it has taken me so long to give an update, I have just been busy at work. But here it is! At this time I am seeing my regular obgyn. He is sending me to do some blood work to check my hormones and such and my husband has to go and do a semen anaylsis. We are doing that next week. Then we will going be going back to the doctor on the 28th so he can talk to us about the results and let us know what our next step is from there, if he can help us or if he will send us to a specialist. I will try to keep yall updated, and wish us luck. Thanks for all the information, it seems that everyone in here has been through this step already. And this is a great place for me to look too for answers of what I will be facing next. Thanks again for all the replies. Good luck to everyone!

Thanks for letting us know and keep us updated. I am so glad you asked all those questions because we got some really great shared experiences and answers. Thanks to Tracy too...your "one day at a time" recommendation is huge to me right now. I was very upset at first since Friday is our first RE appt.- I was convinced that it was over and they were going to tell us we can't have kids. I am feeling much better about it now, and realize that we won't have any answers immediately...one day at a time sounds PERFECT right now! THANK YOU!
