Eh.. I think it's about 50/50 for me.
You have the popular kids who were popular because they have awesome personalities, are charasmatic, etc, and that will never change. I think Matthew is going to be that way. He draws people to him, even when he's being totally obnoxious. Then, since we've grown up a lot, people who were "nerdy" or "dorky" or not the best-looking in the world can get noticed for their talents, good humor, etc because people my age are less judgemental. I have a RL friend who was not popular in high school AT ALL (we met in college though) and she is insanely popular now. She constantly has plans and has been in more weddings than I can count. In college and beyond people learn to look beyond who has the nicest house, hair, etc and dig deeper into personality, which is where she scores big.
Then you have the people who are negative and will always be negative,so they were never and won't ever be popular.. and you have the washed-up has- been people who are stuck back in senior year of high school, thinking that all that stuff is what's really important in life, and thinking it's cool to make the weak feel weaker. Those people just look like fools now. I work with one, and she makes an idiot of herself at lunch a few times a week.
As for me... I am/was none of those. I have my close group of friends, but was friends with most of the popular people (especially the guys) but I wasn't popular myself. Now, I'd say it's the same. I think caring less about it and knowing that a lot of it is bull sh!t helps me get through it.
I'm sorry you'
re stuck with Negative Ninny. Tell her to get over it!
